Start the troubleshooter for Windows Update.

Windows Update History Can Be Removed

  1. To open the Run dialog box, press the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard at the same time, and type services.msc.
  2. Then, to continue, press OK or Enter.
  3. Locate the Windows Update service in the pop-up window, right-click it, and choose Stop from the context menu to stop it.
  4. Then, to delete the Windows Update history, follow the steps below.
  5. To open Windows Explorer, press the Windows key and the E key at the same time.
  6. After that, go to C: WindowsSoftwareDistribution and look for the SoftwareDistribution folder.
  7. Select and remove all of the files in the SoftwareDistribution folder.
  8. A warning window will show after that, and you must click Yes to proceed.
  9. You can go back to step 1 to identify the Windows Update service after successfully eliminating all the files from the Windows update history.
  10. Then, on the context menu, select Start to resume the service.
